When genres coincide, a new radio station emerges (06/06/2010)

Europe’s brightest new internet radio station launches London UK, 01 June 2010: As the global following of internet music radio stations grows week by week, one innovative partnership by two pioneers of the medium have teamed up to launch a new ‘easy listening’ station broadcasting from the UK to Europe and across the world. Targeting the 22 – 55 age group, Radio UK International (RUKI) will cover just about every genre of music and will broadcast 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Partners Lee Williams and John Hicks have collaborated previously on a number of internet radio projects. They worked together on establishing CMR Nashville radio www.cmrnashville.net some years ago, which is now Europe’s number one country music radio station, but John left to found UK Jazz Radio with musician and broadcaster Brian Soundy. UK Jazz Radio www.ukjazzradio.com has become a major force in European jazz with its own record label, tour management and artist representation service as well as the radio station. With an estimated nine million people every week here just in the UK alone listening to internet music radio stations, the worldwide market is massive. Lee and John analysed the existing provision and identified a niche not adequately covered so have launched Radio UK International. RUKI features a wide choice of music, from Irish music or African music of today and yesterday through to classic blues, rock’n’roll, pop, dance, country and world music. Most Presenters are from the UK but others come from right across the world. Special guest at the launch party at The Anvil theatre in Basingstoke was the legendary Alvin Stardust. Lee explained: “Alvin is an artist of immense talent whose ability to perform music of several genre but notably rock’n’roll, featured in his latest album release, country music and jazz”. “Alvin encapsulates the ability of many genre to sit neatly together. That is the foundation of RUKI” added Lee. Further information can be found on the Radio UK International station website, www.radioUKinternational.com.
